His Majesty - The Virus

Zaktualizowano: 1 sie 2020

  1. Not just coronavirus.

We have been living in the subject of coronavirus for over half a year, as if he was the only one who was the most formidable enemy, waiting for our lives. Meanwhile, he has his colleagues who are worth remembering:

a) Marburg virus

He was brought from Uganda to German Marburg, in grivets.

This is the most serious candidate for the title of the most dangerous virus in the world. The mortality rate is 80%. The first symptoms resemble flu, followed by diarrhea, vomiting and abdominal cramps. After a week, hemorrhagic fever occurs.

b) Norovirus

It causes gastritis and small intestine inflammation, which results in vomiting and diarrhea. He is very resistant; it is not damaged by a temperature between - 20 and 60 º C. It is characterized by very high variability and thus has excellent adaptability. Every two or three years a new strain of norovirus is created, which is why scientists have not been able to develop a vaccine against it until now.

c) coronaviruses:

SARS was the cause of the epidemic of acute severe respiratory distress syndrome at the turn of 2002–2003. Within a few months, over 8,000 cases were reported worldwide, and the mortality rate was almost 10 percent. Initially, it was assumed that the natural reservoir of the SARS virus was the masked palm civet but research in recent years has shown that the most likely natural host there were bats.

SARS virus is transmitted through direct contact with sick people, mainly by droplet and air. Infection is also possible through indirect contact with objects contaminated with respiratory secretions or the patient's body fluids. In the course of the disease there is a fever above 38 degrees C and respiratory problems, such as sore throat, dry cough and shortness of breath. No drug has been developed to combat the SARS virus, so symptomatic treatment is similar to that used for severe pneumonia.

MERS-CoV

Like SARS, it belongs to the coronavirus family, but it acts more aggressively - it replicates faster than SARS and is able to penetrate the barrier created by the immune system, as easily as the virus that causes the common cold. In addition, the MERS-CoV virus is far more deadly than SARS - every second infected person dies. The first confirmed case of human infection with MERS-CoV virus was found in 2012 in the Middle East. The patient - a 49-year-old citizen of Qatar - was transported to a hospital in the UK, but died of acute respiratory disease and renal failure.

In any case, what is happening now is very convenient for someone. Thus, the number of employees can be reduced, because you can work remotely, you can get reduced your salary, because the number of working hours is decreasing. It turns out that the virus is not as terrible as it is written about it, it is not terrible for... corporations.

I wonder how long time they will keep us in this situation?
